Tourism has been growing steadily over the last decades and has become one of the largest economic factors worldwide - until COVID 19 hit beginning of 2020.

As a result of the pandemic, many countries and regions have imposed quarantines, entry bans, or other restrictions for citizens of or recent travellers to the most affected areas. Other countries and regions have imposed global restrictions that apply to all foreign countries and territories, or prevent their own citizens from travelling overseas. Together with a decreased willingness to travel, the restrictions have had a negative economic impact on the travel sector in those regions.  

Even though the negative impact of COVID 19 on the tourism industry will be felt for many years to come, not all is lost! The people with the a desire to travel had plenty of time to look around for their new holiday adventures once COVID 19 has lost its devastating grip on tourism.

The above visitor statistics to Africa Adventure travel portals confirm the trend - growing and growing until the end of 2019 and a drop of about 50% in 2020. The good news have been that 425 330 visitors to Africa Adventure have created more than 5.3 Mio impressions during 2020 alone. This amount of interest is equal to the numbers of 2012 / 2013 and gave hope that once travel is again possible recovery might be rather rapidly.

2021 has seen a spectacular increase in visits from 425 000 in 2020 to over 1 Mio visits in 2021. This shows that interest in travelling Southern / East Africa is higher than ever and that tourism will have and has already a big come back.
